America was built on determination. Competition to be the best has been the motivating factor behind many of the great industries and inventions in our history. Not only are we driven to be the best, we are drawn to have the best. The demand for the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry has proven that these are the best sedans on the market.
The longstanding rivalry between the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord dates back over 30 years. The Accord has a slightly longer history with its inception in 1976. It was the first of any sedan of its time to deliver economical gas mileage, spacious, comfortable seating and dependability. Because of this, it was an immediate success. The Accord not only offered high safety rating, but added in several features that came standard with the Accord that put it above the competition.
It wasn’t until 1983 that the competition began. Toyota was taking notice of the booming sales of the Accord and developed the Camry as its competitor. The Camry came out with slightly more leg room, making a more comfortable passenger experience, and slightly more horsepower. With the massive popularity of each car, Americans wanted to feel good about buying them, so factories were build in America which were then sold here. This gave peace of mind to American consumers and sales continued to rise.
As the years progressed, Toyota and Honda would push to enhance their models to the next level. A brand new design was revealed every five years with enhanced and upgraded options available. Each time the advancements in technology made for greater horsepower, gas mileage, safety features and a more stylish design.
The latest comparison ratings make it extremely difficult to clearly make a distinction over which vehicle is better. With the price comparison being the same, the value is nearly identical. The final deciding factor will most likely now and always be a matter of opinion.
